Wessex Court, Somerset

At the end of January 2009, my wife and I took the plunge, retired, and moved to the West Country from the 'Shires'.

We had been looking for a house for a number of years in anticipation of this planned move but could never find exactly what we wanted.
We had decided on a new house and the usual sources on the web came up with a number of properties but they were always: close to main roads, next to a fire station, or very close to other properties.

I don't recall how we initially saw Wessex Court, Henstridge but we decided to take a look during one of our many visits to the area.

It appeared to hit all of the correct buttons for us - near an arterial route if we wanted to visit family, a pleasant neighbourhood, and not overlooked by adjoining houses.
I remember our first visit, way back in 2007 when the site was a hive of activity - before the credit crunch! We appeared unannounced but one of the directors of McIntosh was on site and showed us the plans and the existing show-house.

We were encouraged by the attention we received and following a couple more visits, we decided to commit ourselves to Wessex Court. The houses were very well designed, the site always looked tidy, and the views at the rear of the property we wanted were outstanding.
Of course, the credit crunch had it's say and led to many months of anxiety while we tried to sell our house.

McIntosh could not have been more helpful during this time, it was encouraging to have constant feedback on the position from the builder's side and we would never have received this level of attention from a 'corporate' builder.

The house was a 'one-off' and we wanted to have a number of alterations - some of these required retrofits to the original design, but this were incorporated with no fuss.

During the 10 months it took to sell our house and to move in to Henstridge, we developed a really good relationship with the builder - where else would you get the Managing Director of a company visiting you in your home to try to work towards a mutual deal!

In January of this year, we finally moved in - with some trepidation, as when the time did come to exchange contracts, the completion date came around really quickly. This led us to worry about the quality of finish we would see on arrival.

I can honestly say that we were very pleased with the quality of the finish and the cleaning of the house and it was beyond our expectations in terms of finish and build quality.

Since we have been in residence, we have had a couple of snagging issues that would probably have held off until the usual round of fixes. However, McIntosh have been around constanty (it does help that the site is still being completed!) and we have been able to show off our 'show house' to family and friends.

Everyone who has visited has been very impressed and we are so glad that we made the move and that we chose McIntosh as our house builder.

We look forward to many years of happiness in Wessex Court - a great location, a great site, and a perfect house!
